Johnny (middle name “Fuckin”) Marr. I had thought that only my Catalan friend living in London called him that, but I quickly learned that calling the former Smiths guitarist by his “full” name is apparently commonplace. Fans of the legendary guitarist packed into The Vic Theatre Monday night eager to spend a few hours with on of their music heroes and boy, did he deliver!
Marr has been incredibly busy since his departure from The Smiths. He has produced albums, played as a guest musician for the likes of Modest Mouse, Pet Shop Boys, and more, and has also released three solo albums. As one of the hardest working musicians in the business, it’s no shock that he has remained relevant all these years. The man is an absolute genius when it comes to composing music and lyrics, and hearing him shredding on his guitar was chill-inducing! Marr played a little bit of everything Monday night–songs for the long-term fans, songs for the newer fans, and songs that won over concert-goers who had never heard his music before. For those who had been waiting years to see him live, it was well worth the wait. Keep on rockin’ Johnny!
