Saturday night saw the return of UK band You Me at Six at Bottom Lounge. The last time the band played the Windy City was back in 2014, so the excitement in the room was palpable. Some people had driven across the midwest to see them, and others had been anxiously waiting their return for years. Needless to say, they did not disappoint.
Living up to their reputation as one of the UK’s best live acts, the guys took the stage with a whirlwind of energy that never let up. From the second they hit the stage, they had the crowd singing, dancing, and jumping around. At one point, they had the everyone crouch down low to the ground and then jump up and go crazy during a high point on a crowd favorite. At one point, singer Josh Franceschi even dove into the crowd and was passed around by adoring fans. During their set, You Me at Six artfully wove in some Foo Fighters lyrics and played a good mix of songs off of their new albu m as well as old fan favorites. For fans of the band, it was an emotional night of nostalgia and euphoria that will not soon be forgotten.
Opener DREAMERS proved to be the perfect band to warm up the crowd. Already having a strong connection with Chicago crowds, they had Chicagoans waving their hands in the air, and jumping and singing along with their music. For only having three people in their band, their sound is expansive and their jams are incredibly catchy. I honestly can’t think of a single song in their set that I didn’t enjoy. So glad to have caught the DREAMERS train as they passed through town this time around!
