ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Sunny Sweeney

Texas-born, road warrior Sunny Sweeney is bringing her “Dysfunctional Family Christmas Tour” to Joe’s this Wednesday (December 5th) and it sound like it will be quite the party!

Sweeney got her start playing at local bars where she belted out songs about drinking and partying. Coupled with her wit and some experience in improv comedy, Sweeney knew how to work a crowd from the get-go which as helped her gain fans and slots opening for artists like Miranda Lambert and Garth Brooks. Rolling Stone stated that “Sweeney is one of the rare entertainers who can hold her own at CMA Fest as well as AmericanaFest. One of the greatest gifts Texas-born Sunny Sweeney has (and there are many) is an uncanny knack for keeping listeners on their toes.”

Sweeney’s latest album, Trophy, features 10 tracks which showcase more mature songwriting as she tackles topics like drugs, death, drinking, devotion, and longing for a child. Not to say that the album doesn’t drip with the beloved Sweeney style, it is just more honest, personal, and raw than her previous content.

Pals Brennan Leigh and Ward Davis will be joining Sweeney for her holiday show at Joe’s on Wednesday. What can you expect? A little bit of seasonal music, some original jams, and lots of laughter!
