Hidden gems of the week…

FRIDAY(9/21): illuminati hotties and Diet Cig @ Lincoln Hall

I mean, if their band name isn’t convincing enough, illuminati hottie’s debut album Kiss Yr Frenemies received critical acclaim from the likes of NPR, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and more! The band has a playful sound akin to that of Courtney Barnett or Alvvays that lead singer Sarah Tudzin likes to call “tenderpunk.”

Diet Cig duo Alex Luciano and Noah Bowman are just two pals who love to make music. Bowman had been playing in bands for many years before the two met, but together they released two EPs in 2015 and released their first full length album, Swear I’m Good at This, in 2017. Luciano’s writing style is deeply personal and on the album she sings about her own life experiences, even calling someone out by name in the track “Sixteen.” To get your tickets to Friday’s show with illuminati hotties and Diet Cig, click here.

SATURDAY(9/22): Jill Barber @ Schubas

With one of the most well-recognized voices in Canada, Jill Barber has stepped out of her usual jazz/folk roots and into the contemporary pop scene with her new album Metaphora. On the album, Barber sings of female empowerment, the challenges of being a female in a male-dominated industry, and her own life. Her lead single “Girl’s Gotta Do” went straight to the top of the charts and one of the most requested songs in Canada. Check it out below and get your tickets to the show here.
