Blues vocalist Lauren Mitchell will be making a stop at Buddy Guy’s Legends on August 29th in support of her 2017 album Desire . This album is very personal for Mitchell. With her personal and professional life in absolute chaos, she did what great artists do–turn her pain into a work of art. “Sometimes people don’t understand that the blues is a song of victory,” Mitchell says. “The blues is a way to say, ‘I have overcome.’ I’m turning it into this beautiful thing that I can give to the world that can help someone else heal, or feel better, or just open up a conversation. That’s what this record is for me.” In addition to new, original songs, Mitchell also includes carefully hand-picked songs from her friends’ repertoires as well as covers of the greats (Etta James, Bettye Lavette, Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin and Betty Davis) on the album.
