The trio of Joensuu Riihimäki may be from Finland, but their specialty is actually roots rock/Americana. Growing up listening to great artists like Eric Clapton, U2, BB King, and Bob Dylan, this type of music was the backbone of their musical foundation. Lead vocalist Sami and guitarist Kari met by coincidence about 4 years ago. The two fed off each other’s creative energy, and before they knew it, they had basically written an entire album. Add drummer Moilu to the mix, and the trio has been playing together for the past 4 years in support of their three (soon to be four) full-length albums.
Like many others, in Joensuu Riihimäki’s early stages of writing music, they were most focused on writing full songs that rock. With a few years under their belt, they are more purposeful with their lyrics and compositions. When the trio kicked off the new ‘Highwater Tour’ this year, they played in a concert hall in Helsinki and the gig was recorded with the intention of turning it into a live album. The band plays without a setlist during their tours and choose what’s next according to the situation and atmosphere. What a great and brave start the tour!
