TNKFest: JEFF the Brotherhood

JEFF the Brotherhood appeared at Lincoln Hall this past Saturday night as part of Tomorrow Never Knows fest–Schubas and Lincoln Hall’s winter music fest highlighting up and coming indie artists.

The Orrall brothers were greeted by enthusiastic fans as they entered the stage late that night.  Their Chicago fan base is quite strong considering that they make frequent stops here and that Jamin spent time attending Columbia College in the city.  With friends and long time fans in the crowd, the concert felt very relaxed and intimate.

While I was expecting to be kicked in the head or leave the venue with beer in my hair, I was shocked at how tame fans were in comparison to their other sets I’ve seen.  I think this was partly due to the fact that the majority of their setlist seemed to come off of their most recent two albums, which some fans may not know as well as their older work.

Among my favorite were “Hey Friend” and “Whatever I Want” as well as “Roachin” off their newest album.  On Zone, the song is sung by Bully’s Alicia Bognanno, so hearing Jake sing it was a fun twist.

These two always put on a kick ass show–can’t wait for them to come back to Chicago!
