After the rains cleared, blue skies and warm weather took over just in time to welcome California rockers Best Coast and The Go-Go’s to the stage at Ravinia Friday night.
Although Best Coast singer Bethany Cosentino was sick Friday night, she and the guys put on a strong performance that had Best Coast fans pleased. Not their typical scene, Cosentino was a bit snappy with the older, hoity toity Highland Park crowd, which probably put off some onlookers. Regardless, they played a short, but great set which contained some of their newer material off of 2015’s California Nights as well as older fan favorites. Bobb Bruno, donning a Rob Zombie shirt, tore it up on guitar as Cosentino’s strong, clear voice swept over the lawn with ease. Make sure you play in the city next time, guys.
The Go-Go’s put on a memorable performance which ushered in feelings of nostalgia for many in the crowd. Arguably the most successful female band in the U.S., the ladies proved they still have what it takes to make a crowd go crazy. They are complete badasses and I have a great amount of respect for them for keeping at it for so many years. Cheers, ladies!
