Kevin Parker, front man and master mind behind Tame Impala, has been accused of stealing the melody of a song by Argentinian singer Pablito Ruiz and using it in one of their hit songs, Feels Like We Only Go Backwards.
Here’s the thing though, Pablito’s song was released in 1989 when Parker was only 3 years old so I find this highly unlikely. Also, since when did Tame Impala lack so much creativity that they needed to resort to ripping off a child pop star from the 80’s? Do the songs sound similar? Yes, they do! There are tons of songs that sound similar in this world…someone really bored just happened to come across this one and make a spectacle. Hear Pablito’s song and read more here.
On a more positive note, Tame Impala returns to the US for a very short tour in November. Although they aren’t stopping in Chicago on this leg, their album Live Versions (recorded in live Chicago in the fall of 2013) is on sale now and it’s pretty spectacular. Originally released for Record Store Day, the album features 9 songs with trippy interludes and song compositions that are constantly evolving. Click here to buy the album!
